Course: BA Broadcast Communication Favorite Book: A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon. - Even though the book was a bit melancholy in its presentation of a family falling apart, I think Haddon managed to successfully tell this family's story without demonizing anyone. I kind of like the idea that the conflicts in this family drama wasn't created by malice but just a genuine recognition of each character's personal goals. Favorite Film: Trainspotting - I think that Trainspotting is a movie that still resonates with a lot people whether or not they struggle with addiction. The movie speaks to teenagers and young adults seeking purpose and stimulation in an adult world that seems all too dull. At the core of the movie is a story about a boy trying to better himself whilst questioning if anything is even worth the bother. Favorite Band: Tokyo Jihen - Tokyo Jihen was the first band to ever make me truly appreciate each instrument used in a song. With their jazzy arrangement, each instrument feels distinct and actually necessary in every song. This band is actually the reason I started learning Japanese. Music is easy to appreciate, the words that of a song in a different language are a whole other problem. Favorite Media Practitioner: Director Todd Solondz - Solondz films are usually about such unconventional, depraved characters in such unrealistic situations that the audience is forced to confront their connection to the humanity observed in the madness. I think his movies (e.g. Happiness, Dark Horse) provide a nice break from stories with such clear cut moral absolutism. Solondz's audience is then left to decide for themselves what it is they truly feel about certain things in their society when always given a worst case scenario. Favorite Meal: Sinigang na Bangus - Sinigang na Bangus has always been a light, refreshing meal that's always reminded me of home. It's flavors are mild and understated. It's the only comfort food I can never get enough of. Hobbies: Learning languages, Writing, and Singing.
