Roger Kasendorf, DO

Physician, Ortho 1 Medical Group
La Jolla, CA

Roger Kasendorf, DO, is a board-certified osteopathic physician and physiatrist working in pain management, physical medicine, and rehabilitation. He practices in the San Diego area and treats a broad range of musculoskeletal and pain conditions, from acute injuries to chronic pain that has continued for years without resolution. He also teaches at three osteopathic medical schools, examines candidates for his specialty boards, and provides services as an independent medical examiner and expert witness. His approach emphasizes treating the functional abilities a patient has lost rather than focusing only on the name of a condition. Dr. Kasendorf earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1999. He completed his Doctor of Osteopathy degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2003. He then completed a traditional rotating internship at North Shore University Hospital at Plainview and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Nassau University Medical Center. He served as Chief Resident from 2006 to 2007. He is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain management and holds licenses in California, Nevada, Texas, Wyoming, and Alaska. Dr. Kasendorf's clinical experience spans both coasts. He operated his own practice in Long Beach, New York, and La Jolla, California, from 2009 through 2015. He also served as a physiatrist and Director of Sports Medicine at Coastal Pain and Spinal Diagnostics. He has maintained an affiliation with Scripps Memorial Hospital since 2014 and has practiced with Ortho 1 Medical Group since January 2026. Dr. Kasendorf's clinical work includes osteopathic manipulation, acute and chronic pain management, arthritis and rheumatological conditions, cancer pain management, regenerative medicine, and rehabilitation. His procedures include trigger point, joint, spinal, facet, and hyaluronic acid injections. He also uses Botox for migraines and muscle spasticity and relies on EMG and musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic evaluation. His treatment planning considers how tendons, ligaments, joints, muscles, bones, nerves, and the brain function together. He also coordinates with physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other physicians when appropriate. Since 2016, Dr. Kasendorf has maintained a medicolegal consulting practice. His services include independent medical evaluations, case merit reviews, medical record reviews, expert reports, depositions, and trial testimony. His professional experience further includes academic appointments, CME presentations, clinical publications, specialty board service, and medical board review. He received La Jolla Top Doctor recognition in 2020, 2021, and 2022, California Top Osteopathic Physician recognition in September 2020, a Continental Who's Who listing in 2020, and Best Osteopath at the 2021 GHP Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Awards. Roger Kasendorf, DO, continues his work across patient care, medical education, specialty board responsibilities, and medicolegal consulting, maintaining a focus on functional improvement and helping patients recover abilities limited by pain or physical conditions.
